What Are Dental Veneers?
Veneers are thin, lightweight, heat-resistant ceramic shells that are custom-designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. The shade and color of veneers are superior to other dental materials because they are bright, translucent, and reflect light naturally. They are easy to clean because they are non-porous. Veneers are the perfect combination of beauty and functionality.
Our dentist in Torrance, CA, offers a wide range of esthetic solutions and ceramic veneers near you to suit any smile.
Ceramic Veneers vs. Other Treatments
Ceramic veneers are scratch-proof and more resistant to staining than resin materials, but they are less flexible and sensitive to impact. Veneers require more tooth preparation than resin but less preparation than dental crowns, making them a good middle-ground option. Ceramic veneers are considered the gold standard of dental restorations due to their natural color, shiny appearance, and translucency around the edges. Dental resins are more opaque and stain more easily, requiring replacement more frequently than veneers.
Who is a Candidate for Veneers?
A cosmetic dentist near you can use dental veneers for various therapeutic or cosmetic purposes:
- Tooth fractures: Front teeth are more vulnerable to trauma and can break and chip easily. In these cases, veneers are more conservative than crowns and provide a better appearance and more stable color.
- Teeth grinding (bruxism): If your teeth are worn down due to teeth grinding, dental veneers are the best option to restore the height and shape of those teeth.
- Enamel defects: Pitting or discoloration of tooth surfaces can be caused by inherited genetic disorders or by excessive fluoride intake, but they can easily be fixed with dental veneers near you.
- Gaps and spaces: Orthodontic treatments like Invisalign or braces are used to treat larger spaces, but these treatments can take a long time before they provide visible results. Veneers are the fastest option to cover smaller gaps, and you can achieve the desired look after only two or three appointments.
- Crooked or uneven teeth: Dr. Mehr uses porcelain veneers to restore crooked or uneven teeth and give them a natural and healthy appearance. Design your perfect smile with Dr. Mehr’s help!
- Discoloration and staining: Some tooth stains are resistant to cleaning, polishing, or teeth whitening. In these cases, veneers are the treatment of choice because they cover the stains and give the tooth a perfect look.
Dental Veneers Treatment
At your first appointment, our dentist 90505 will make a model of your teeth, using photo sand scans to determine the final shape and position of your veneers. This model will be used to analyze your smile and plan out the changes you need to create your perfect smile. You’ll also help select the shade and color of your veneers.
Each veneer is handmade, carefully designed by Dr. Mehr and carved by our laboratory experts to work in harmony with other parts of your mouth while smiling, speaking, and eating.
At your final appointment, your teeth will be prepared for the veneers by buffing the front surface of the teeth. The veneers are then cemented onto the prepared tooth surface and adjusted as needed. Most patients find that it takes 1-2 weeks to get used to their new veneers.
